The Green Machine is one of those flies that's in our rotation year-round. When wet, the sparse green CDC feather lays down on top of the flashback, imitating the gas bubbles trapped by emerging insect pupae. This fly is a top performer regardless of the season or the insects present in the water, which means it's a great searching pattern when fishing new water.

The Pupa is the third stage of the chironomid before it emerges into an adult. During metamorphosis, gas bubbles and gills form, bringing the pupae higher in the water column and into view of cruising trout.
